Shame

Danish philosopher Anders Fogh Jensen guides us through various aspects of shame, finding inspiration in philosophy, psychology and mythology.
Guilt is differentiated from shame, yet it still seems that guilt can cover up for shame just as shame can cover for guilt. Anders Fogh Jensen speaks about how shame can be connected to self-esteem, to behavior and to honor, and also about how shame was represented in Greek and Christian mythologies. He also talks about the role shame played in Sartre’s thematization of “the other’s gaze.”
And Lastly, Anders looks at whether ethics can be based on the shame one feels when faced with the truth itself or when faced with human virtues.
